Haxmas : Ideathon / Hackathon

The Rotaract Club of IIT recently hosted a hackathon event, Haxmas 2022 with Ascentic as the Platinum Sponsor. Haxmas 2022 brought together some of the best and brightest young minds from the tech community to work on innovative and impactful projects.

Ascentic, a leading tech company in Sri Lanka, was proud to sponsor the event and provide a platform for young people to showcase their skills and creativity. The event was a huge success, attracting a diverse group of participants, including students, developers, and entrepreneurs.

Haxmas 2022 consisted of a few phases including an ideathon and a hackathon. The scope of the event was to provide a platform for teams to ideate, develop, and pitch technology solutions within a specified theme. The teams were given 2 weeks to prepare their project proposals and present their solutions to a panel of judges who were Mr Shanaka Perera the Head of engineering Ascentic Ltd and Mrs Dilini Rajapakse the Head of business development and innovation Ascentic Ltd on the day of the ideathon. The projects were diverse and demonstrated a high level of innovation and creativity. The judges were impressed by the quality of the projects and praised the participants for their hard work and dedication. In addition, the judges selected 7 teams to move forward to the main hackathon event based on their performance during the ideathon. The selected teams were provided with mentorship and support during a one-month implementation period. On the day of the hackathon, the top three innovations were chosen by the judging panel, which included Mrs. Anna Kalm, founder of Ascentic Ltd., Mr. Alagan Mahalingam, founder, CEO, and chief software architect of Rootcode Labs, and Mr. Rohan Jayaweera, analytics delivery lead at Octave and co-founder/director of Antyra Solutions. The winning team received a cash prize and an internship opportunity with Ascentic, providing them with valuable resources and support as they continue to develop their solution.

In addition to the ideathon and the hackathon, Haxmas 2022 also featured a number of workshops and talks by leading tech industry experts, providing participants with the opportunity to learn new skills and stay up-to-date with the latest developments in their field.

Haxmas 2022 provided a platform for young undergraduates to collaborate, learn, and make a difference in their community. Ascentic is honoured to have been a part of this exciting and impactful event. In conclusion, Haxmas 2022 was a fantastic event that demonstrated the power of collaboration and the impact that young people can have when they come together to work on innovative solutions.

Mastermind, which is a new addition to Haxmas, is a project carried out by the Rotaract Club of IIT, with the aim of helping children in rural and underprivileged areas with assistance in accessing computers. After thorough research, the Ordinary Level students of the Chilaw and Puttalam districts were selected for this project. With the assistance of the zonal priest in charge of the area, RACIIT was able to facilitate classes for 24 children of the area. Our club carried out 2 workshops at St. Andrew’s College, Puttalam, where an experienced Ordinary Level lecturer, Mr. Praveen Jeshan Opatha, discussed and delivered certain topics related to the Ordinary Level ICT syllabus as well as provided the students with some extra subject matter such as hardware and basic programming topics. While a practice test too was held at the school, the top three scorers at this were awarded full scholarships provided by ESOFT, which brought the second sub-project of Haxmas to a successful close.
